Sadie Bilda CTP #4

Tonight I watched Fox News, and although it is not my favorite news source I was curious as to what they would be talking about tonight.
They started the news this evening by talking about the Packer win, this allowed them to open up on a positive note. They then went to interview the "first timers" at Lambeau field and what was interesting was they only interviewed middle aged or college aged caucasian males. No women, and no one of diversity. After the the sports segment was the weather, turns out next weekend should be nice but temperatures will start to drop throughout the night.

After celebrating the Packer win and informing us of the nice weather, the reports brought the bad news. A man was found dead in Mitchell Park Lagoon, who was transferred to a hospital where he later died. However, reports say they don't believe there was any foul play. A 47 year old women was shot on the west side today and is now in critical condition.
One of the men involved in the shooting of five year old Leila Peterson starts trial tomorrow. As this may be looked at as a closer step to closure for the family, the circumstances are still tragic. The interesting part about this segment of the nightly news was that when reporting the story it was done fast and with as little information as possible. It came to a point where it was almost hard to comprehend a story before they proceeded on to the next one.
After reporting the bad news, the reporters quickly jumped into a story about the government creating a contract with the U.S Post Office, which would create nearly 200,000 jobs for Milwaukee. Once they mentioned the government, the reporters then switched to talk about the upcoming debates. Marquette polls actually show this might be a close race. The Mayor of New York, stated he was a Hillary Clinton supporter and he believes these debates will allow Clinton to lay out her vision. Van Mobley, a long time Trump supporter was then interviewed who believes Trump will keep us safe and create an environment for people to have a comfortable living.
After talking about the debates, Fox talked about a Robo - Advisor, which is half the price of a human financial advisor. Then they briefly went over the Susan G. Colman 5k walk for breast cancer. To end the nightly news they talked about the weather again and then closed with another quick segment on how well the packers did.
The part that stood out the most about watching Fox News tonight, was a majority of the reporters or people interviewed were middle aged caucasian men. There was no type of diversity what so ever. I also thought it was interesting how they talked about the positives in the beginning and end of the half hour. It was almost as if they were trying to distract us from the negatives by putting the bad news in the middle and only talking about it vaguely without detail. Doing this makes us believe there isn't much bad happening in Milwaukee, but there is so much they didn't mention.

Overall, I don't believe Fox News is the best news source. The way they portrayed the news just didn't seem sincere to me so it makes me question their information and how real it is as far as being manipulated to make the viewers believe it.

  1. After reading how the news segment you watched played out, I realized that CBS 58 followed the same exact pattern! First Packers, then weather, politics, bad news (shootings and drowning), Race for the Cure, weather and Packers again. It is amazing that they aren't owned by the same corporation.

  2. Although Fox 6 isn't your go-to news source, I'm glad you kept an open mind and still gave it a shot. I also watched a broadcast from Fox 6 News and I noticed that a lot of the segments were geared towards Caucasian middle aged males. I agree that they started and ended with a positive story to distract the viewers from what's really going on in the world. Although it is always nice to see some positive stories in the news, I also think the reality of the world and of Milwaukee would best be portrayed through more negative stories that are detailed.
