After watching the news, I concluded that there were much more negative stories, than there were positive. I categorized the stories based on if the overall message of the story was more positive or more negative. There was only one positive story out of the entire news cast. Although there is a lot of frustration when it comes to the 2016 political race, I ranked the story positive because it shows current poll results. This can help promote the public to vote for their desired candidate. The stories that I ranked negative were ranked that way for a reason. There were two stories about car accidents, two stories about deadly shootings, one about child pornography, and one about a flood.

I also concluded that while there were more females reporting, more of the stories were about males. The majority of the stories were about Caucasian people. The only two stories that were about African American people were about the crash victims and the live footage of protests from Charlotte, NC. I also noticed that the stories that involved African Americans had a deadly result, while the stories about Caucasians were serious but didn't have a fatal outcome. The ages varied throughout the stories. Some stories were about young adults in their twenties, while other stories covered people well into their sixties. Even the news reporters fell right in the middle of that range. The reporters were in their 30s or 40s.

I think this news cast reflected true reality to the viewers quite well. Today's society isn't rainbows and butterflies. People need to take off their rose colored glasses and realize how negative and dangerous the world can be. Although I would have loved to have seen more positive stories in the news cast, it's easier to report about the negative things because there is so much to cover. I don't think the news tried to hide the truth from the viewers. So that makes me conclude that what I watched during that news cast is really what the world is like.

  1. I agree. I believe the news stories covered in your blog portrayed the reality that many people are living in today. It seemed bias with all the negative coverage but it's really whats happening. I like the way you listed the stories and divided them into categories. It gave me a better understanding and description of them along with the title.
