After reading the first chapter of Introduction to Communication Studies, I found all 5 forms of communication, (intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, and mass) very interesting and unique, yet in some ways similar to each other. One very important form of communication that stands out to me is intrapersonal. Intrapersonal communication takes place inside our heads, triggered by internal and external stimulus. It builds on how we become social or react socially. Intrapersonal communication helps shape our own well-being, being our own thoughts and how we communicate with ourselves. For myself, a lot of my intrapersonal communication is unplanned and formed from my senses or thoughts. I am one to always think before I say something, or listen to what others are saying and try to either respond or reflect in my head their thoughts because I am a shy person. I also am always reflecting upon something previously I did, and always thinking about what I could do better.

There's something about mass communication that interests me more than the other forms of communication. It's the fact of spreading any information on such a large scale to a wide range of people. Mass communication isn't just publishing nonfictional stories to the newspaper for people to read. With technology booming we can share, tweet, post almost anything to the web for people to see. I like the variety of ways you can publish ideas through mass communication. For example I can quickly tweet short ideas, phrases or pictures to all of my twitter friends, or I can post more in depth stories, articles, news reports to my Facebook account where only my friends accepted can see. For new ideas or new business', mass communication is the best way to be heard of.http://communicationtheory.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/functions-of-mass-communication.jpg
As far as my own professional goals, I am looking to find a career path that interests me. With a business management degree and minor in both communications and adult education, I know I have a lot of options of business areas I could work. I grew up with both parents where at one point in their lives owned their own business. However, deciding on what my own business will be is yet to come. As of right now my interest lie in the company I work at currently because there is a lot of room for growth where I imagine myself working my way up to the corporate offices. I would like to study more about the career paths of human resource management.
I would agree with your response on intrapersonal communication. I am also a shy person and I can understand exactly what you are saying. What I liked about your blog was that you mentioned you are always thinking about what you can do better. This is the type of positive thinking I need to include more in my daily routine. I have been a little late when it comes to due dates and self-reflection is the sort of thing I need to do to improve. So, thank you. Intrapersonal communication also reminds me about Alverno in a sense that we, as students, are ALWAYS reflecting about our work which helps a lot even if it does get tedious. About your professional goals, I think are you on the right track to find what you want. When I was undecided about my professional goals, I would look up things that interested me and combine it with my major to see what possible career paths there are. I hope that could help you. Overall, great first blog of the semester!

I think it great that you take communication from both ends of the spectrum and use it to reflect on what you want or who you are. Also, deciding to open your own business is a huge step and I think its great that you want to take that path. The self reflecting will help you decide your path.
