Group projects can be a dreadful process. They can be a feat within themselves because you never know who you are going to be paired up with. You can either be stuck with a partner that chooses not to do anything, or you can be lucky and be with someone who is motivated and excited to get the project done.
I have never been interested in participating in group projects, but last semester that changed after I was in CM-225. For that class, most of our presentations were done within a group setting. We really got to know the people in our group which helped make me more comfortable when speaking in front of the class. When we would be assigned a group presentation, we either presented the day of researching a topic, or presented a few days after, giving us time to work depending on how long the presentation had to be. For our final project, we each had to talk about different topics within the subject of the exploitation of women. We choose to research and discuss: Substance Abuse Among Women, Pornography: Sex Sells, Prostitution, Women and Sex Tracking in the U.S., and the Exploitation of Women in Poverty. Each of us presented one topic, but it all flowed together. The way we planned things and worked with each other really helped make for a smooth process. Three out of the five of us were assigned a task. I organized our binder with all of our PowerPoints under different tabs, one member was in charge of making sure the group stayed organized, and another was in charge of making sure everyone's powerpoint was completed - she made sure everything looked the same. This final project took a great amount of time and effort; the members in the group were willing to help one another succeed and do well and that is what you need in a group.

Communication is the key in group work, your group communicated great together and all knew that you were responsible for a part in the group. You all worked together and divided the work into specific roles. Glad that you had a successful presentation with your group!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that your group experience was great that it influenced your perspective about group work. This is exactly what happened to me about my views and experience of group work. When you experience something that went bad at first, it psychologically conditions you the next time you approach that same exact thing. However, if you experience that same exact thing and it went great, it psychologically conditions you again in a more positive way than before. It is so weird, but it's true and it works. Especially, when you prepare, set a game plan, organize and work well as a group. Overall, your blog is well done and happy that your group experience went great!
