Interpersonal and mass communication are the two forms of communication that I am most interested in at the moment. I am finding it necessary to learn more about them so to understand and participate in them better. For example, I want to get better at interpersonal communication to boost my confidence and help my networking skills. As for mass communication, I feel that the media is abundant and ever present but that I, as a Hmong American and Asian American, am still underrepresented and misrepresented in the media. I want to be a part of the change happening for Asians in the media and tackling the beast that is mass communication will come in very handy.
This interest and pursuit of communication ties in with my professional goals. I am an artist with many passions and I need a lot of help living out as many of them as possible. I make fine art through printmaking and paper making. I work digitally as a graphic designer and have recently begun digital illustration and painting. I am aiming to begin online videos soon. Apart from that I am passionate about designing my own line of stationery/paper goods and textiles/apparel for retail. In addition to that I yearn to see my family’s passion project for high quality clothes made for and by Hmong Americans become a thriving business.
I hold myself accountable to contributing to culture and history by making my voice and passions known. I am not looking to shout loudly or clumsily but with confidence and control. Knowing some ins and outs of communication will help the art and media I craft be seen and heard not just by those who want to see it but also by those who need to know it exists.

ReplyDeleteYour blog is very enlightening. I am a media design major and I can relate to what you said about communicating your artworks into the world. It's hard to showcase artwork alone and using interpersonal and mass communication is the way to go in 2016, but it can be hard at times. I really appreciate how you mentioned you wanted to get better at interpersonal communication to boost your confidence and networking skills. I didn't think about that and I can completely agree with you on that, too. I believe that can help me as well. Overall, great blog!
